Tally is a personal activity-logging app for iPhone and iPad published by Walldoff Studios ("we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how Tally processes information, where that information is stored, when it may leave your device, and the choices available to you.
This policy applies to the Tally app, its widgets, Lock Screen and Control Center controls, App Shortcuts, and Tally-related support communications. It does not govern Apple services, websites you choose to open, or apps and services to which you export or share information; those services have their own privacy practices.
Summary
- No Tally account or login is required.
- We do not operate a Tally data server and do not receive your projects, activities, logs, goals, notes, ratings, images, or shopping/checklist information through the app.
- Tally has no advertising SDK, analytics SDK, cross-app tracking, or third-party crash-reporting SDK.
- Your Tally records are stored on your device. When iCloud is available, Tally automatically uses your private Apple CloudKit database to synchronize those records across your devices; otherwise, it uses local-only storage.
- Tally requests notification access only if you enable goal reminders. It uses Apple’s system photo picker only when you choose an image for a rating.
- You decide if and where to share a JSON backup. A backup can contain all of your Tally records, including notes and saved rating images.
- We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not share it for targeted or cross-context behavioral advertising.
Information Tally processes
Tally processes the information you enter and the settings needed to provide its features. Depending on how you use the app, this may include:
- project and activity names, icons, colors, themes, ordering, and archive status;
- reporting-field names and configuration, units, ranges, steps, default values, and custom labels;
- logged values, completion states, dates and times, durations, percentages, and notes;
- rating values, rated-item names, categories, website links, and images you select;
- goals, targets or limits, schedules, deadlines, reminder settings, streaks, and calculated progress;
- pause periods and optional pause notes;
- checklist or shopping-item names, quantities, notes, completion history, and locally generated suggestions;
- favorites, recent selections, default display settings, onboarding state, accent color, and similar preferences; and
- randomly generated record identifiers, modification dates, widget snapshots, selected quick-log targets, and short-lived quick-log undo records needed for app functionality.
Tally lets you define what to track. You may choose to enter health, fitness, work, lifestyle, or other potentially sensitive information. Tally does not connect to Apple Health or HealthKit and does not automatically obtain health records from other apps or devices. Information of that kind exists in Tally only if you enter it yourself.
The random identifiers Tally creates identify records inside the app. They are not advertising identifiers and are not used to identify or track your device across apps or websites.
Where information is stored
On-device storage
Tally stores its database and preferences inside Apple-protected app and App Group containers on your device. The App Group allows the main app and Tally’s widget/control extension to use the same local database and a compact snapshot of relevant project, activity, goal, and progress information.
Preferences such as onboarding state, appearance settings, favorites, recents, and quick-log selections are stored locally using Apple system storage. Tally also stores one Boolean initialization marker in Apple’s iCloud key-value store; it contains no projects or history and only prevents a reinstall from treating an empty, still-downloading CloudKit cache as a brand-new account. Apple may also include app data in device backups according to your device and iCloud Backup settings.
Private iCloud and CloudKit synchronization
At launch, Tally checks whether an iCloud account is available. If it is available and CloudKit can be configured, Tally stores and synchronizes its database through the private CloudKit database associated with your Apple account. A transient status-check timeout does not switch the app to a separate local database, and a fresh installation waits briefly for existing records to download before offering sample data. Synced records can include all of the user content described above, including notes, checklist information, reminder settings, links, and selected rating images. CloudKit may use silent background notifications to keep the database synchronized.
If iCloud is unavailable, restricted, signed out, or cannot be configured, Tally falls back to a local-only database and remains usable. The app’s Settings screen shows the storage mode detected for the current launch.
Walldoff Studios does not receive your Apple ID or iCloud credentials and does not operate a backend that reads your Tally database. Your private CloudKit records are handled by Apple under your Apple account. Apple may process account, device, network, record, and service metadata needed to provide and secure iCloud. Apple’s handling of that information is governed by its own terms and privacy policy.
Optional features and information flows
Photos
When you choose to add an image to a rating, Tally uses Apple’s system photo picker. Tally receives only the image you select rather than broad access to your photo library. The app prepares a resized, compressed copy and stores that copy with the rating. Tally does not intentionally read or use the image’s location metadata. If CloudKit sync is active, the prepared image copy is included in your private CloudKit data. Removing the image or deleting the entry removes Tally’s stored copy, subject to synchronization and Apple’s retention processes.
Goal reminders and notifications
Tally asks for notification permission only after you enable reminders for a goal. Goal reminders are scheduled locally on your device; Walldoff Studios does not send them from a marketing or notification server. Reminder content can contain an activity name and goal-progress values. Depending on your notification settings, this information may be visible on the Lock Screen or to someone who can view your device. You can change notification previews or revoke notification permission in Apple Settings.
CloudKit may separately use silent remote notifications for synchronization. Those notifications do not contain advertising and are handled by Apple’s synchronization infrastructure.
Widgets, Lock Screen controls, and Control Center controls
If you add Tally widgets or controls, iOS may display project names, activity names, goal names, totals, progress, streaks, and completion status outside the main app. Some quick-log controls are designed to add or undo entries while the device remains locked. Anyone able to view or operate those configured surfaces may see the displayed information or trigger the available action. You can remove the widgets or controls and manage Lock Screen access in Apple Settings.
The information used by these surfaces is stored locally in Tally’s shared App Group container. It is not sent to Walldoff Studios.
Siri, Shortcuts, and App Intents
Tally provides system shortcuts that can display user-created activity names and log a value you request. If you invoke these features through Siri or another Apple interface, Apple may process your request, voice input, transcript, and related service information under Apple’s privacy policy. Tally receives only the parameters needed to perform the requested action and does not receive your Siri audio from Apple.
Backup export, import, and sharing
When you choose Export data, Tally creates a JSON backup in its temporary app storage and presents Apple’s share sheet. The backup contains the Tally database, including project and activity configuration, log history, dates and times, values, notes, ratings, goals, pause periods, shopping/checklist data, and any saved rating images. Tally backups are not separately password-protected or encrypted by Tally, so you should store and share them carefully.
The destination you choose—such as Files, iCloud Drive, email, AirDrop, or another app—receives the backup and handles it under its own privacy and retention practices. Walldoff Studios does not receive the backup unless you deliberately send it to us. A temporary export file may remain in app-managed temporary storage until iOS clears it or the app is removed. Copies saved or sent elsewhere remain there until you delete them.
When you choose Import data, Tally reads the file you select through Apple’s file picker and merges it into your Tally database. The file is not uploaded to Walldoff Studios.
User-saved website links
A rating may contain a website address. Tally stores the address as part of the entry but does not contact that website in the background. If you choose Open Website, iOS opens the address using the appropriate browser or app. The destination may receive ordinary network information such as your IP address and browser or device information and may apply its own cookies, logging, and privacy policy. Walldoff Studios does not proxy the request.
Information Walldoff Studios receives
Through the app
Tally does not transmit your user-created records to Walldoff Studios. The current app has no publisher-operated account service, cloud API, advertising, analytics, tracking, telemetry, or third-party crash-reporting service.
Tally may write limited technical error messages to Apple’s local unified logging system when an operation fails. We do not intentionally write activity values, notes, images, backup contents, or other user content to those logs.
Apple may separately process App Store downloads, transactions, aggregate app usage, and device or app diagnostics. Depending on your Apple privacy and analytics settings, Apple may make aggregated reports or crash and diagnostic information available to developers. Any such information is collected and controlled by Apple, not by a Tally analytics SDK, and we use it only to understand distribution, diagnose failures, maintain security, and improve app reliability.
When you contact us
If you email us or use our website contact form for Tally support, we receive the information you choose to provide, which may include your name, email address, company name, message, attachments, and ordinary email or request metadata. We use it to respond, investigate the issue, maintain support and security records, and comply with legal obligations.
Please do not send a Tally backup or other sensitive content unless it is necessary for your support request and you are comfortable sharing it. If you deliberately attach a backup, screenshot, or diagnostic file, we will receive the information contained in that file.
How information is used
Tally processes information only as needed to:
- save, organize, calculate, chart, and display your activity records;
- synchronize your records through your private iCloud database when available;
- provide reminders, widgets, controls, shortcuts, imports, and exports that you choose to use;
- preserve your settings and selections;
- respond to support requests and troubleshoot problems;
- protect the app, users, and our rights; and
- meet applicable legal obligations.
Tally’s progress calculations, charts, suggestions, and goal status are generated to provide app functionality. We do not use your information for advertising, data brokerage, credit or insurance decisions, or automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects.
Where data-protection law requires a legal basis, we rely as applicable on performing our agreement with you by providing the app, your consent or requested action for optional features, our legitimate interests in supporting and securing the app, and compliance with legal obligations. You may withdraw permission for an optional system feature through Apple Settings, although withdrawing permission does not delete information already stored in Tally.
Sharing and disclosure
We do not sell or rent personal information. We do not share personal information for targeted or cross-context behavioral advertising, and we have not done so during the preceding 12 months.
Information may be handled by or disclosed to:
- Apple, when you use iCloud/CloudKit, App Store services, system notifications, Photos, Files, share sheets, Siri, Shortcuts, widgets, controls, device backup, or optional diagnostics;
- a destination you choose, when you open a website or export, share, email, save, or AirDrop a backup or other content;
- support and communications providers, but only for information you send directly to us through email or our website; and
- authorities, advisers, or a successor organization, only when reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to valid legal process, protect rights or safety, investigate abuse, or complete a merger, financing, acquisition, or transfer of the app, subject to applicable safeguards.
Because we do not receive your Tally database through the app, we ordinarily have no copy of that database to disclose. Third parties that process information independently, especially Apple and destinations you select, apply their own privacy policies and retention rules.
Retention and deletion
Tally records remain on your device and, when sync is active, in your private CloudKit database until you delete them or Apple removes them under its policies. You can delete individual entries, goals, activities, and projects in the app. Erase all data deletes Tally’s projects, activities, entries, goals, pause records, and shopping/checklist records from the active database. Some app preferences, such as appearance or onboarding state, may remain until changed or until the app is removed.
When Tally is using CloudKit, database deletions are expected to synchronize across your devices after they connect and finish syncing. Deletion may not be immediate, and Apple may retain backups, security records, or recoverable copies according to its policies. If Tally is in local-only mode, deleting local data does not necessarily delete an older CloudKit copy created during a previous synced session.
Uninstalling Tally generally removes its local app data under iOS behavior, but it does not necessarily delete data already stored in iCloud, copies in device backups, or JSON backups you exported elsewhere. To remove synchronized records, use Tally’s deletion controls while iCloud sync is active, allow time for the changes to synchronize, and use Apple’s iCloud storage controls if needed before uninstalling. Walldoff Studios cannot directly access or delete records in your private CloudKit database on your behalf.
Disabling reminders or deleting their related goals causes Tally to cancel its pending goal notifications when the app refreshes its schedule. Removing widgets or controls stops those surfaces from displaying Tally snapshots after iOS refreshes them.
Support correspondence is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary to resolve the request, keep appropriate business or security records, establish or defend legal claims, and satisfy applicable legal requirements. Information held by Apple, an email provider, a website host, or a destination you selected is retained under that provider’s policies.
Your choices and privacy rights
You can:
- view, correct, and delete Tally records inside the app;
- export a portable JSON copy of your records;
- erase the active Tally database from Settings;
- choose whether to select a rating image, create reminders, add widgets or controls, use Siri/Shortcuts, open a saved link, or export a backup;
- manage notification previews and permission in Apple Settings;
- manage Tally’s iCloud access, iCloud storage, device backup, Siri, and analytics settings through Apple Settings; and
- remove exported files from every destination where you saved or sent them.
Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or portability for personal information that we control; to withdraw consent; and to complain to a data-protection authority. You will not be discriminated against for exercising applicable privacy rights. Because Walldoff Studios does not possess your private on-device or CloudKit records, those rights are normally exercised using Tally and your Apple account. For support correspondence or other information you sent directly to us, contact us using the details below. We may need to verify your request.
Residents of the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland may complain to their local supervisory authority. In Sweden, the supervisory authority is the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY): https://www.imy.se/en/.
For information controlled by Apple, submit requests directly to Apple using Apple’s privacy tools. If you have a question about how to exercise a right, contact us and we will explain what we can control.
International processing
Walldoff Studios is based in Sweden. Apple and providers used for support communications or website hosting may process information in countries other than your own. Where a provider processes information on our behalf, we use the contractual or other legal safeguards required by applicable law. Providers that independently control information, including Apple for many of its services, apply their own transfer mechanisms and privacy policies.
Security
Tally relies on Apple’s app sandbox, App Group access controls, device security, and CloudKit protections. Network transfers used for private CloudKit sync are protected by Apple’s systems. Tally does not operate an intervening synchronization server.
No storage or transmission method is completely secure. Tally does not add a separate app passcode to your local database, and exported JSON backups are readable by anyone who obtains them. Protect your device with a passcode, review Lock Screen visibility, keep iOS updated, and store exported backups only in locations you trust.
Children
Tally is a general-purpose productivity app and is not directed to children under 13 or the minimum age required by local law. We do not knowingly operate an account or collection service for children’s personal information. If you believe a child has sent personal information directly to Walldoff Studios in a support communication, contact us so we can review and delete it where appropriate.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when Tally’s features, dependencies, data practices, or legal requirements change. The “Last updated” date identifies the current version. Material changes will be posted at the policy’s public URL and, when appropriate, communicated in the app, App Store release notes, or another suitable notice.
